Content Knowledge (CK)

Content knowledge (CK) is teachers’ knowledge about the subject matter to be learned or taught. (…) Knowledge and the nature of inquiry differ greatly between fields, and teachers should understand the deeper knowledge fundamentals of the disciplines in which they teach. <span class="su-quote-cite"><a href="http://www.lrnbl.com/references/#Koehler_Mishra2009" target="_blank">Koehler, M. This is a domain that every teacher must have – you teach because you have something to teach.  The fact that I have been involved in teaching a variety of undergraduate courses for nearly two decades clearly shows that I’ve had a significant level of content knowledge from the very beginning.  Over time, the depth and breadth of that content knowledge has only continued to expand. (Koehler & Mishra, 2009)

The reason I entered the MET program, is my sincere belief that this:

… could be presented more effectively.

As much as I love my subject matter, and as much as I know many of my students have enjoyed it as well, I know that I haven’t been able to reach numerous others.  This is why I feel that developing the other domains of TPACK is so critical to my teaching practice.
